USA HOCKEY/STHA COACHING REQUIREMENTS

*Team Managers/Volunteers and STHA Board of Directors must complete the below steps 1 through 4

 

1) Register as a member of USA Hockey* - Click here

    - Required annually (annual fee).

2) Register as a member of the STHA - Click here

    - Required annually.

3) Complete USA Hockey Background Screening* - Click here

    - Required and now administered nationally by USA Hockey

    - Good for two seasons; If you did this last year (2021-2022), you do not need to do it for this year (2022-2023), and it will not allow you to complete the screening process

    - There is a screening fee.

    - Required before you step on the ice.

4) Complete USA Hockey SafeSport training* - Click here

    - Required every year and cannot be added to a roster until completed

    - Required before you step on the ice.

    - As of January 1, 2018, all relevant individuals who need to be SafeSport certified or are seeking recertification will need to complete the new SafeSport training, which features updated content. Once you have completed the Core SafeSport Course, there will be a Refresher Course available for individuals who have previously completed the core SafeSport course and need to recertify. Users completing the SafeSport refresher course will be certified for an additional season.

5) Find, register, & attend your required CEP certification clinic - Click here

    - You must be registered for a clinic before you can step on the ice.

    - Clinic must be completed by December 31.

    - The coaching clinic season typically runs from September 1 to December 31.

    - You can attend one clinic per season.

    - All coaches must enter USA Hockey's Coaching Education Program at Level 1, and must continue their education with a clinic each year until, at a minimum, they achieve Level 4.

        Exception: Coaches of 8U or younger players may remain at Level 1 (or their current level) until they move up to the next age-level.

    - All coaches after they attain Level 4 must take 5 Continuing Education credits every 3 years to stay eligible (new rule starting in 2021).

    - Coaches can find their CEP# and current level, expiration date, and completed age-modules by clicking here.

6) Complete online age-specific module(s) for the age level of play you are coaching - Click here

    - You must complete your age-specific module(s) prior to participation (cannot be named to a roster without it).

    - Coaches may complete more than one age-specific module in any given season.

    - Modules cost $10 each.

CHIN STRAPS

A reminder that all coaches must have a buckled chin strap during practices.  This is a liability issue so please be sure to comply with this rule.
