Hockey Games - Update and Additional Guidelines

By STHA, 02/01/21, 11:00PM EST

 STHA Members,

The Broome County Health Department has approved the STHA safety guidance which was updated to ensure compliance with the Broome County Health Department guidance that was released on Jan. 28, 2021.  The good news is that with this approval of our plan, we can play games as long as the rules of the local Health Departments are being followed.  However, this guidance does also add some additional regulations that we must follow effective February 1, 2021.  The full updated STHA safety plan can be found here, and below are a summary of the major changes:

  • Players must wear masks at all time for all practices and games
  • Spectators are not allowed at this time, which applies to the Ice House Sports Complex (IHSC).  Note that the Fire and Ice Bar and Grille is a separate business from the IHSC which will continue to operate in compliance with its own guidelines.
  • Guardians for all players will need to sign a COVID information and consent form and give it to your team manager at your next ice session.  Forms will be available at the IHSC or you can print one out and provide it to your team manager (or coach).
  • The SportsEngine app will be used to track player attendance and by selecting that the player is attending, you are self-attesting that you can answer “No” to all of the questions on the COVID questionnaire.  The questionnaire can be found in the STHA safety plan.
  • For visiting teams and all spectators (If allowed in the future), a digital form will need to be completed for every spectator that enters the IHSC every time they attend a game or practice.  The form will collect the information required by the Broome County Health Department.

We appreciate your understanding and compliance with the updated rules.

Also, as we get more information about the allowability of games in NYS, we will be scheduling games and also posting the amount of the 3rd and final invoice for each team/division.

Please send any questions to Greg Laubisch (

Thanks very much!
